I know, it doesn’t make big headlines. You can’t cross it off a to-do list. There aren’t always immediate results.
So why in the world would you care to spend so much time with yourself?
Because despite the silence and stillness it takes, making yourself a priority is a revolutionary act. One that will change your entire world. Each time you stop to breathe deep down into your body and sit in silence, you open the doors to magic. There is an entire universe filled with mystery inside of you. A whole library of knowledge to explore.
It is only accessible when you take the time to listen. Once your body knows you’re there, patiently waiting for its guidance, watch out. It will begin to tell you everything you need to know.
Not sure whether a relationship is good for you right now? Ask. Does your body expand or contract?
Wondering if you should start that new project? Are your insides cringing, or do they tingle with excitement?
The body test can be applied to every question, every decision, every possible path. Why? Your body is a vehicle for your soul. It is a communication device. The rational, logical mind can only know so much. Its comprehension is limited to “verifiable facts.”
Intuition surpasses logic. It rises up into our awareness. We just know with absolute certainty. The main difficulty I have experienced when using my body as a compass for pretty much everything is this:
Sometimes traumatic experiences can leave imprints in our cells. These memories create contraction and fear. We might associate a current situation with our past and attempt to run (especially if we couldn’t before).
It’s okay.
The awareness of what is happening inside is enough to get our attention and open the door to questions. Pick up a pen and journal about it. Keep talking to your body. Is there fear? If so, it’s likely trauma. Is there a contraction? Pay attention.
The trick is to sit with whatever comes up – no matter how difficult it feels – and face it with loving, compassionate eyes. If we seek to know the truth, and are willing to see it, our soul will not forsake us. It sometimes just takes a little extra work to access our deepest truths. They can easily be buried under all the conditioning we have received.
One by one, we choose which beliefs to cultivate, and which ones to throw out.
One thing is clear. Our body wants to help us do this work. It’s so good at helping us feel into what is our truth, rather than the one given to us, or expected of us. Listen. Take the time. Carve it out in your day. I promise, your soul is always there, just waiting for the opportunity to be heard.
So much love to you!
